We missed our community Christmas Markets in 2020.

Fingers and toes crossed The Christmas lights will be switched on Saturday 27th November 2021

I hope to secure 2 further dates 4th and 11th December 2021 too.So if you want a stall please let me know via email to normanandjoanne@gmail.com.

If you are selling cakes/food you will need to have hygiene rating and all stall holders will need their own insurance. I will put some links to relative bodies to assist you.

Stall fee is £20 non refundable as we will be advertising the events and your stall fee goes towards that any other costs. We have gazebos 3x3mt and their will be 2 stall holders to each gazebo, we have table cloths and can arrange loan of a 3ft table if required.

24/11/2020 - Work has started on site on the former Cellar 5/Bargain Booze building in Tyldesley Conservation Area on Elliott Street, partly funded by a £49,942 grant from the Tyldesley High Street Heritage Action Zone.

For Tyldesley Community Interest Company secured a £1.5m grant from Historic England to invest over the next 3 years in buildings on the high street and a range of community engagement activities and cultural events to celebrate the heritage and culture of the historic industrial hilltop town, known locally as Bongs. The poor condition of the building on Elliott Street meant that emergency repairs to stabilise the structure were a priority for the project, with work to restore the historical shop frontage scheduled later. 

Building Project Manager Kate Mitchell (right on the photo) explained: 

“We were faced with a rapidly deteriorating building so time was of the essence. We appreciate the support of the owner in getting this time-sensitive work done quickly, which will allow us to move on to restoring the shop front.” 

Tyldesley resident Ian Tomlinson - Community Engagement Manager on the project stated: 

“We hope this is the first of many high street refurbishments being delivered by For Tyldesley within the Conservation Area. We were definitely ‘in at the deep end’ with this one. It’s always been one of our target buildings on the high street due to its poor condition. The owners had already started work on the interior and we were looking forward to funding a new traditional shop front to finish it off. Clearly, the urgent need to stabilise the building became the priority and we’re delighted that the structural repairs are now underway.”

Planning permission has just been granted to develop Frank café at the other end of the Conservation area. The team are meeting with the previous owner to collect stories about the buildings past that can be shared with the community.

For Tyldesley are undertaking a three-year project to transform Tyldesley’s historic high street, and they’re keen to spend locally where the right expertise is available. Any local construction contractors with experience of working on older buildings can download a registration form from our download section. Forms must be returned by 8th March.

For Tyldesley are developing a Town Design Guide and they are keen to gather thoughts and ideas from traders, residents, and visitors through consultation. People can contribute by using the QR codes or clicking the links below to have a say on the future development of the Conservation Area.   

The team’s events partners are looking forward to working on a range of events and activities on the high street as the local community emerges from the lockdown.
